During a perfectly productive workday, snow started to fall in Scottsdale. I peered though a window to barely decipher a few flakes falling against the horizon. However, more snow began to drop and dance wildly in the wind.

The family rushed outside followed by our two young Yellow Labradors, who sensed a sudden surge of energy among us. I initially stood on the sidelines, inside our kitchen nook, capturing the moment through an open sliding glass door and telephoto lens.

Then the proper response kicked in. I slipped on a coat and walked onto the patio, my bare feet freezing in sandals. Numerous cameras of ours captured the moments, especially when the dogs began to understand something different was falling from the sky. Marvel, one of the labs, tried to bite a few elusive flakes.

Snow landing on Scottsdale’s rocks isn’t an everyday occurrence in the desert. Snow stops work in its tracks and rightfully so. It’s far more likely to put a smile on your face than whatever you were working on moments before.
