When Loren pointed out to me another social media platform to take part in, I wondered how many of our resources can we really pour into this. We may need to soon deploy our dog Molly to a computer to provide an extra set of eyes. Instead of inventing something unheard of, the world’s creative minds seem happy riding the same social media wave by adding slight changes and calling their copycat concepts different names. And if you don’t weave the latest social media spinoff into your life, you wonder what you might be missing or if you’re vulnerable to competition. Social media is part of many businesses’ ground games, but they don’t have huge amounts of time to spend on this. One word: overwhelming. We even feel tension toward our social media favorites as they continue to transform into online flea markets where hundreds of voices shout for your attention.
Our view: Cling to the important ones you feel offer you the most firepower and simply keep an eye on the new kids on the block. Entrepreneurs: I’m cool with it if your next invention has nothing to do with social media. Feel free to come up with completely new ideas.
