As a kid, I sat with my grandpa outside the airport fence and watched the planes takeoff and land. During his lifetime, he watched air travel evolve from its inception.
Airports themselves also are evolving. During our tour years ago of Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport, someone explained how the arrival of PHX Sky Train® and upscale restaurants transformed the airport into a date-night destination option. Then we recently learned about the Phoenix Airport Museum and its impressive art collection. We spent four days shooting video of the collection for an upcoming conference. We watched passengers stop to browse and photograph the art. We met two women who visited the airport for the sole purpose of viewing the various pieces. The video shoots also provided us an opportunity to hear stories about the art and a behind-the-scenes look at memorabilia in storage such as old photographs, Delta playing cards and carrying bags from Hughes Airwest and Bonanza Air Lines.
